Undercover as a slow act of self-destruction. Same premise turned inside out: somebody living a second identity long enough that the loyalty stops being fake. Both make the crime family more affectionate than the institution. Difference: the lead is a woman and the register is revenge rather than duty, and it is far shorter.

Hooks early Episode 1. The father dies in the first fifteen minutes and the deal is struck immediately.

The same 1990s gangland grammar. Territory, knives, elevators, men who explain nothing before they act. If the fight staging was your reason for watching, this is the closest thing to it. Difference: almost no interiority and no marriage, so the emotional cost is replaced with momentum.

Hooks early Episode 1. A brother is dead, a man walks back into the organisation he left, and the violence starts immediately. Seven episodes of forty minutes with nothing spare.

Two men who cannot tell whether they are partners or prey. The Ji Chang Wook and Wi Ha Joon relationship is this exact structure, played over twelve hours instead of sixteen. Difference: it is a small town procedural with almost no action, and it moves at a fraction of the speed.

Slow start Episode 3, the point at which you stop trusting both leads at once.

Postwar ambition and the men who broker it. Same fascination with a period when the country was built by people willing to do the ugly parts. Difference: the violence is political rather than physical, and the pace is deliberately slow.

Slow start Episode 4, where the political machinery behind the partnership becomes visible.

Everybody pays, in order. Same moral engine: one bad decision, compounding, with no character allowed a clean exit. Difference: six episodes, an ensemble structure and no undercover story, so the tension is structural rather than personal.

Slow start Episode 3, once the separate timelines start colliding and the structure becomes the point of the whole thing.

Loan sharks, gyms and a friendship the plot keeps threatening. The nearest 2023 sibling by setting and by physicality. Difference: it is far more optimistic and much less cruel, and the good guys stay good.
