Because you loved 악연 2025 · Netflix · 6 episodes, about 5.5 hours in total Crime, Drama Streaming: Netflix Change drama

Six episodes, no filler, no mercy. Three stories of greed and desperation collide, nobody is redeemed, and the structure is the whole point: every episode is a different vantage on the same accident. It is also cold by design, so nobody in it is built to be followed. The picks are ranked by structure first and cruelty second.

Narrow it down 7 of 7

The order is our own call on how close two shows feel, not a score a machine worked out. Closest thing we have means the same experience in a different costume, shares one strong thread means one thing carries over, and same feeling, different angle means it gets you to the same place by another route.

The 8 Show poster

The 8 Show

더 에이트 쇼

2024Netflix8 ep~52 min~7h total

Closest thing we have

The best-built satire in this wave and the least fun to sit through, deliberately. Eight people, eight floors, money that accrues by the second, and a slide into cruelty that never needs a masked guard to explain it. Ryu Jun Yeol narrates it like a man describing a small business. Difference: The 8 Show is one building and one continuous experiment, where this is three stories that only meet when they collide.

Mask Girl

마스크걸

2023Netflix7 ep~60 min~7h total

Closest thing we have

One story told in handovers, with cruelty as the structure. Three actresses play one woman across twenty years of humiliation, violence and internet fame, and the writing is cruellest to the characters it understands best. Difference: Mask Girl spans two decades and gives you somebody to follow the whole way, which this refuses to do for anyone.

Slow start Episode 3, when the lead is recast and the show reveals it is a relay race across three actresses rather than one story.

Connection poster

Connection

커넥션

2024SBS14 ep~60 min~14h total

Shares one strong thread

The same appetite for a web of compromised people. A narcotics detective forcibly addicted to the drug he is investigating, with fourteen episodes of school friends who all owe each other something and a physical urgency most procedurals never find. Difference: Connection is a single line of investigation rather than a lattice, and it lets its lead off far more lightly.

Nine Puzzles poster

Nine Puzzles

나인 퍼즐

2025Disney+11 ep~60 min~11h total

Shares one strong thread

Interlocking investigation, eleven episodes, no wasted subplot. A profiler is the prime suspect in her own uncle's murder, and the show keeps rearranging which piece you are looking at. Difference: Nine Puzzles has a detective to root for and eleven hours to spend on her, so the coldness that defines this is replaced by a point of view.

Strangers from Hell poster

Strangers from Hell

타인은 지옥이다

2019OCN10 ep~60 min~10h total

Same feeling, different angle

Ten episodes of dread built entirely out of proximity. A cheap Seoul boarding house turning an ordinary young man into something else, with shared bathrooms and thin walls doing the work a monster usually does. Im Si Wan carries it and Lee Dong Wook's dentist is the most unsettling thing in it. Difference: Strangers from Hell stays in one building and one head, where this keeps changing whose head you are in.

The Frog

아무도 없는 숲속에서

2024Netflix8 ep~58 min~7.5h total

Same feeling, different angle

Two summers, two lodgings, eight episodes of dread. Kim Yoon Seok and Yoon Kye Sang are excellent and Go Min Si is genuinely frightening, and the structure cuts between two timelines in the same place. Difference: The Frog has almost nothing underneath the dread, where this has a mechanism, so its emptiness is more annoying rather than less.

Squid Game poster

Squid Game

오징어 게임

2021Netflix9 ep~60 min~9h total

Same feeling, different angle

The debt satire underneath is blunt and real. Games simple enough to explain in a sentence and cruel enough to hold nine hours, with Lee Jung Jae playing a weak man rather than a hero. Difference: Squid Game explains its rules up front and asks you to like somebody, and this withholds its rules until they close.

Skip these

Commonly suggested, and wrong

Mouse

Recommended constantly for the twisty-thriller comparison, and it is badly overlong. Twenty episodes treat a psychological condition as something close to a supernatural curse, so somebody who just watched six tight hours of ordinary greed is being handed the opposite of both the length and the thesis.

Death's Game

Named alongside this for the compressed structure and the interlocking cast. The framing is the problem: it uses a suicide as the mechanism for a repeating premise, which is a very different argument about consequence than the one this show makes.

A Killer Paradox

Offered whenever somebody wants a short Korean crime series with a moral hole in it. It plays much of its length as comedy from inside the killer's head, so the flat, unforgiving register that makes this land is absent.

A note on method

Matching starts from attributes we set by hand: pace, how much romance drives the plot, emotional weight, comfort. Then a title only stays if it holds up against the whole run of the show and earns a one-sentence reason for being on this list. Full method.
