Difference: The 8 Show is a rigged game with rules on the wall, so its horror is designed where this one's is an accident that gets out of hand.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the time for money rule is understood and the floors start turning on each other.

Greed as a machine you cannot switch off, in six episodes with nothing spare. Three stories of desperation collide, the structure is the point, and nobody is redeemed. Same refusal to hand anybody a way out. Difference: Karma is an interlocking ensemble across timelines, so the dread is structural rather than a straight descent.

Slow start Episode 3, once the separate timelines start colliding and the structure becomes the point of the whole thing.

A man going in shallow and ending up all the way under. Twelve episodes, 1995, a drug ring, and the best written thing in its year, with sustained ugly violence and no relief valve anywhere. Difference: The Worst of Evil has a marriage at its centre carrying the emotional damage, where this spreads the rot across everybody equally.

Hooks early Episode 1. The undercover assignment starts immediately and the marriage is already a wound before the first hour ends.

Pure noir at maximum speed, with the plotting deliberately simple because the descent is the point. Seven episodes of forty minutes, spectacular fights, and style that is genuinely good enough to carry a thin story. Difference: Mercy for None is revenge with a clear target, so it never asks you to watch ordinary people become the problem.

Hooks early Episode 1. A brother is dead, a man walks back into the organisation he left, and the violence starts immediately. Seven episodes of forty minutes with nothing spare.

Debt as the engine, and the money men are the monsters. Eight episodes with the loan-shark hook set in the first hour and the best hand-to-hand choreography Netflix has paid for in Korea. Difference: Bloodhounds is warm at its centre and its villain is a cartoon, so it is fun in a way this show has no interest in being.

Hooks early Episode 1. The boxing gym and the loan-shark hook are both done inside one episode.

A crime that gets inside the person investigating it, with a physical clock attached. Fourteen episodes where the premise creates real urgency, Ji Sung carries the whole thing, and the withdrawal is written as a physical problem rather than a metaphor. Difference: Connection is a procedural with a target to chase, so it always has forward motion where this has only a slide.
