Bleak Korean crime with no comfort offered. Both centre a woman the camera watches for hours without ever getting inside, and both let dread do the work that plot usually does. Difference: The Frog is built on withholding and Mask Girl on over-explaining, so one leaves you unsettled and the other leaves you tired.

Slow start Episode 3, if you are still there. The two timelines finally start speaking to each other.

Beauty and money as an enforcement mechanism. The surfaces are the point in both: a school that ranks by wealth and looks, shot like an advertisement, with a revenge plot underneath. Difference: Hierarchy styles the cruelty and stops there, while Mask Girl follows it to a prison and a daughter.

Hooks early Episode 1. The transfer student arrives and the revenge plot is stated outright, which is as good as it gets.
