The two shows are permanently paired because they share the same failure mode in different amounts: a high concept that stops obeying itself once the second half needs a plot. Difference: pace 5 and a murder mystery at the centre, and it holds its own logic together for longer, which makes it the better first watch of the two.

Hooks early Episode 1. She is pulled into the webtoon before the first hour is out.

Same director, and the same cold precision. Ahn Gil Ho again on a protagonist who cannot read other people and solves things by pattern instead, with the same grey, expensive look. Difference: romance 0, no fantasy element and pace 3, so it is entirely procedural and demands you keep track of names.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the first autopsy contradicts the official story.

His most-watched, and the same architecture of a plan executed to the letter. Same director, same interest in a protagonist who has spent years building a system to defeat other people. Difference: heavy 5 and no genre element, so the sci-fi delight is replaced by cruelty, and it is far more disciplined.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the board is set and you can see the shape of her plan.

Rules imposed on a person who did not consent to them. Same premise of an ordinary man forced to play by a mechanic he cannot escape, with lives spent as currency. Difference: pace 5 and heavy 5, and it is an anthology of bodies rather than one continuous world, so the location-based obsession here has no equivalent.

Hooks early Episode 1. The premise is fully explained inside twenty minutes and the first body swap happens before the hour is up.

A game with published rules and people exploiting them. Same pleasure of watching participants reverse-engineer a system, same escalation as the mechanics get abused. Difference: it is satire with comfort 1 and barely any romance, so the emotional through-line that Alhambra attempts is not offered at all.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the time for money rule is understood and the floors start turning on each other.

A ranking system running inside an institution. Same interest in what people do once a scoring mechanic is imposed on them, pace 5. Difference: it is a school thriller with no fantasy technology, so the spectacle is stripped out and what remains is social cruelty.
