The revenge Itaewon Class kept promising and then mislaid. A man given another run at a chaebol family from the inside, with the plotting kept front and centre for the full sixteen and antagonists drawn with real detail instead of one snarling chairman. Song Joong-ki plays the outsider who is smarter than the room, which is what Saeroyi was sold as. Difference: the register is corporate satire, and it fumbles its last hour badly enough that people still argue about it.

Hooks early Episode 1. He dies and wakes up in 1987 inside the family that had him killed.

For the found family of misfits above a business, which is the thing people miss about Danbam. A building full of tenants nobody else would defend, an outsider who arrives with money and no patience, and a conglomerate that has to be dismantled floor by floor. Difference: it is a black comedy that enjoys itself, so the dignity and the grief that made Saeroyi's story land are simply not on the menu.

Slow start Episode 3, when the Geumga Plaza tenants stop being obstacles and become his crew.

If what you actually responded to was a man with nothing being taken seriously at work. A contract employee with no degree inside a trading company with no room for him, and the same conviction that small competences are worth a whole scene. If Saeroyi lucking into his wins bothered you, nothing here is luck. Difference: no revenge, no romance, not even ambiguous romance, and the tone is stoic where Itaewon Class is loud.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the sales team starts treating him like a person rather than a filing error.

The righteous-outsider-versus-corrupt-money plot with the tone deliberately cranked to farce. A short-tempered priest, a useless detective, a neighbourhood worth protecting, and a genuinely satisfying dismantling of people who assumed they were untouchable. Difference: it is a comedy first and it never asks to be taken as seriously as Itaewon Class asks to be taken.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the priest, the prosecutor and the detective are stuck in the same room.

The same anger at predatory money, stripped to eight episodes and two friends. Boxers against a loan shark, a mentor worth avenging, and no time at all for a love triangle. Difference: it is a fight show. There is no business to build and no slow climb, just consequences arriving quickly.

Hooks early Episode 1. The boxing gym and the loan-shark hook are both done inside one episode.

For anyone who finished Itaewon Class annoyed that the revenge kept getting deferred. Victims the system failed, an episodic revenge service, a very satisfying beating roughly every second week. Difference: no long game. Where Saeroyi needed fifteen years, this needs two episodes, and it is pulp on purpose.
