The first four hours are a genuinely fun supernatural romcom and then the plot runs out, which is the identical failure at a different scale. Difference: My Demon fills its back half with padding, where this one keeps inventing rules until they stop tracking.

Slow start Episode 7, where the contract stops being a gag and the demon actually has something to lose.

Same writer, same director, and nothing else in common. Kim Eun Sook wrote both and Ahn Gil Ho directed both, which is why the coldness at the centre of each is shot the same way: a woman running a long plan with the affect turned all the way down. Difference: The Glory has no comedy and no fantasy to hide behind, so the flatness that reads as a joke here reads as damage there.

The cold immortal and the warm mortal, in the most designed frame available. Every shot of the hotel is a built object and IU's thousand-year-old owner is the same shape of character: unreachable, funny about it, and slowly being taught something. Difference: Hotel del Luna's owner is serving a sentence, so her stillness is punishment rather than a condition she was born with.

Same director, and the same problem with its own rules. An augmented-reality game bleeding into Granada, twelve hours of real dread built on real mechanics, and then the last four hours swap logic for mystery. If the thing that annoyed you was a system that stops applying, this is that failure at its clearest. Difference: Alhambra is a thriller with no interest in being funny and no romance worth the name.

Hooks early Episode 1. The game and the first duel arrive fast.

The rented companion, played entirely for comfort. A burnt-out webtoon producer subscribes to a virtual boyfriend service and gets a parade of cameos. Timely idea, no escalation, no cost. Difference: Boyfriend on Demand never asks what she is actually buying, so the argument about ownership that gives this its bite is absent.

Hooks early Episode 1 is the entire concept and the show never escalates past it. If the subscription gag has not won you by the end of the first hour, stop there.

Supernatural romance where the best relationship is not the romance. Lee Dong Wook and Kim Bum carry sixteen episodes on a brothers' rivalry that outclasses the love story, the action is good and the mythology is overstuffed. Difference: Nine-Tailed's centre of gravity is two brothers rather than a contract, and it handles its biggest move more cleanly than this handles its last hour.
