Lee Dong Wook again, and the version of this that hurts. Same immortal-and-mortal ache, same sacrifice-then-return structure, and the same use of a second pair to carry the comedy while the leads carry the grief. Difference: Goblin spends sixteen episodes making its mythology hurt, where this one moves too fast for it to land.

Slow start Episode 8. Everything before it is mood, rules and comedy, and the buildup asks for real patience. From episode 8 the show stops explaining itself and starts spending.

A being centuries old, running out of time on purpose. Same lavish supernatural world with rules, same procession of one-episode spirits, same interest in an immortal who has done unforgivable things. Difference: it is a sentence being served rather than a hunt, style-led, and the romance is the engine instead of the passenger.

Slow start Episode 3, once the hotel staff get histories of their own.

A supernatural lead who loses his power and has to negotiate. Same pairing of a non-human with a woman who refuses to be protected, and the same appetite for a contract as a romance device. Difference: contemporary chaebol comedy at comfort 1, so the folklore is decoration rather than structure.

Slow start Episode 7, where the contract stops being a gag and the demon actually has something to lose.

Jo Bo Ah again, in the low-stakes version of a fated curse. Same premise of a bond that predates both characters and cannot be argued with, same light touch with the mythology. Difference: it is much sillier and the danger never feels real, so it is comfort viewing where this one at least tries for horror.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the spell book is actually opened and the show commits to being a comedy about a curse.

Fantasy world-building that actually holds its own rules. Same mix of monster-hunting, court intrigue and a doomed pairing, with an ensemble deep enough to carry an arc without the leads. Difference: it is an epic in two parts and it resets its stakes between them, which is either relief or a cheat depending on your tolerance.

Slow start Episode 3, once the training arc starts and the ensemble locks in.

Korean folklore played completely straight. Same source well of gods, curses and creatures with names, and the same idea that the old stories are load bearing rather than set dressing. Difference: no romance, no comic relief, and no rescue: twelve episodes of possession and inheritance, and the atmosphere is the whole product.

Slow start Episode 5, when the possession stops being a monster of the week and starts being the story of one family's debt.
