Jeju, a photographer whose career collapses in public, and the weather forecaster who has loved her since childhood. The back half is excellent, and the hometown relationships are what make it work. Getting there means seven hours of a Seoul scandal plot the writing does not care about.
The order is our own call on how close two shows feel, not a score a machine worked out. Closest thing we have means the same experience in a different costume, shares one strong thread means one thing carries over, and same feeling, different angle means it gets you to the same place by another route.
The same island, doing more with it. Jeju as an economy and a set of family obligations rather than scenery, with a haenyeo culture that is treated as work. Difference: it is an anthology, so no single couple carries it and no episode is padded.

City woman, seaside village, a man everybody already trusts. The template Samdal-ri is working in, executed with a tighter script and a warmer ensemble. Difference: what the male lead is carrying is the actual plot, so the back half gets heavier rather than lighter.

Both are about a woman living under a town that has already decided who she is, one coming home and one arriving as a stranger, and both make the gossip a real antagonist. Difference: a serial killer thread runs underneath it, which gives every warm scene a floor of dread.

Childhood friends, mothers who are best friends, and a career failure nobody wants to admit. Nearly the same premise from the next year, right down to the return home in disgrace. Difference: the mothers get equal screen time, and the show is honest that the parents caused most of it.

Two lives, one hometown, and the question of who got to leave. Same interest in what a small place does to ambition, and the same slow, kind pacing. Difference: the central relationship is between sisters, and it is far more rigorous about work.
Hooks early Episode 1, where the swap happens and both sisters immediately have to live with it. The ratings open at their highest and drift down from there.
An island, a dream deferred, and a comeback nobody is rooting for yet. Same 2023 warmth and the same trust that a competent woman rebuilding is enough. Difference: the premise is high concept, and the family violence in it is handled bluntly.

Recommended because it is also Jeju and also about families. It is a four-decade portrait of poverty and loss that will wreck you. Samdal-ri is a romance with a village attached.
The reflex comfort pick. There is no hometown, no returning failure and no childhood promise in it; the pleasure is competence among friends, which is a different appetite.
Named as the generic countryside romance. It is much slighter, and it has none of the family history that makes Samdal-ri's second half work.
