Our Blues
우리들의 블루스Checked and re-read
A Jeju Island anthology where every chapter is a different couple or family and the connective tissue is the island itself. Noh Hee Kyung writes middle-aged characters with a patience the genre almost never grants them, and the ensemble, particularly Lee Byung Hun and Shin Min Ah, does career-best work. Twenty episodes is a lot, the anthology format means some chapters land harder than others, and the teen pregnancy arc is polarising. Warm, melancholic, and unconcerned with being exciting.
Romance is sweet and bitter — and life riddled with ups and downs — in multiple stories about people who live and work on bustling Jeju island.
Slow start Episode 3 closes the first chapter and sells the anthology format.
