Three siblings commuting out of a life that is quietly crushing them, a rural house they cannot leave behind, and dialogue that names the exhaustion instead of dramatising it. Same existential weight under an ordinary surface. Difference: it is far slower and has no plot mechanism at all, so nothing carries you through the first three episodes except the writing.

Slow start Episode 3, once Mr Gu starts drinking with Mi-jeong. Before that it is deliberately airless.

For the structure of small lives taken seriously. Jeju, an ensemble handing the story between them, and an interest in the economics of staying somewhere. Same tenderness toward people whose situations are not fixable. Difference: it is an anthology rather than one arc, so it never builds the sustained tension of two sisters living each other's consequences.

Slow start Episode 3 closes the first chapter and sells the anthology format.

The purest version of the leaving Seoul impulse: a woman quits everything and moves to a small town to do nothing, and the show lets her. Same quiet, same refusal to make recovery dramatic. Difference: it is much smaller in scale, the mystery attached to it does real damage, and the family knot that drives this show is not what it is about.

If the mother and daughter thread was what got you. Sixty years of one family on Jeju, with the same conviction that ordinary lives deserve the runtime. Difference: it spans generations rather than one year, and it is engineered to make you cry in a way that Our Unwritten Seoul deliberately avoids.

Hooks early Episode 2, where the childhood section pays off.

For the countryside as a place that heals people slowly. A city professional relocating, a village that will not leave her alone, warmth as the point. Difference: it is a straight romance with a comfort agenda and no identity crisis to resolve, so it is the easy version of the same setting.

The heaviest neighbour on this list, and the right one if the loneliness was the appeal. A middle aged man and a young woman with nothing in common except being worn down, and a show that treats kindness as an act of survival. Difference: no swap, very little comedy, and relief only where the neighbours are. It is bleak for most of its run and it earns every minute of it.

Slow start Episode 4 is the turn. Before that it just looks bleak.
