The same archetype, updated and sharpened. An impossible surgeon walks into a broken department and starts overruling it, and the pleasure is identical: competence as moral force, cases that resolve in an hour, an institution that deserves the humiliation. Difference: pace 5 and comfort 3 against our pace 4 and comfort 4, with no romance at all, so it is leaner and much more aggressive.

Hooks early Episode 1. A surgeon arrives from a war zone and starts breaking hospital policy inside twenty minutes. There is no slow build anywhere in the eight episodes.

The comfort version, and the one people put back on. Same faith that a hospital is a place where good people do difficult work well, same case-of-the-week structure carrying a long-running ensemble. Comfort 5. Difference: pace 2 and no antagonist, so the hierarchy fights that drive Teacher Kim are replaced by friendship and a band.

Hooks early Episode 2, when the band and the friendship rhythm take over from the medical cases.

Young doctors being broken in, and it is the kindest version. Same premise of residents surviving an environment designed to grind them down, with a written-review average of 9.38 and 8.5 rewatch. Difference: it is an obstetrics ensemble with no mentor figure, so the guru-and-disciples structure that anchors Teacher Kim is missing.

Slow start Episode 3. The first two hours are busy introducing four residents; from three the ward starts running and it does not stop.

Same writer, and the same moral spine. Kang Eun Kyung again on somebody refusing an order because the order is wrong, whatever it costs. Difference: it is period horror with a romance at the centre, so the medical procedural entirely disappears and the register is melodrama.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the hospital becomes the setting rather than a rumour. The pace changes completely there.

Same director, and the same argument about an outsider proving the institution wrong. Yoo In Shik again on a protagonist the establishment underestimates, with cases-of-the-week that carry the ethics. Comfort 5. Difference: law rather than medicine, and it is gentle where Teacher Kim shouts, so the surgical urgency is replaced by patience.

Hooks early Episode 1. The whale and the revolving door do the entire job inside twenty minutes.

The institution as the real subject. Same interest in a workplace hierarchy that punishes competence when it comes from the wrong person, same procedural texture. Difference: romance 0, comfort 3 and no medical crisis, so there is nothing to save and the show never lets anybody win.
