Real internal politics, case work that holds up, courtroom scenes among the better recent ones, and a central relationship it refuses to resolve. Twelve episodes with no padding, exactly like this one. Difference: Beyond the Bar has a hierarchy and a senior to please, so it carries a tension this show deliberately does without.

Hooks early Episode 2. The mentor and the rookie stop performing at each other and the case work takes over.

The hangout standard, and almost nothing happens in it either. Five friends in their forties eat, play in a terrible band, and occasionally save a life, and the appeal is entirely the company. Twelve episodes that take two hours to stop feeling like a procedural and then become very hard to leave. Difference: Hospital Playlist has a band and a set of patient cases built to make you cry, where this keeps its register flat on purpose.

The obvious comparison, and it holds: this is that show with law degrees. Sixteen hours about the specific exhaustion of a life that is fine and unbearable at once, told at the slowest pace here by a distance. Same interest in ordinary evenings and people who cannot say what is wrong. Difference: My Liberation Notes is far heavier and airless for its first four episodes, where this is warm from the start.

Slow start Episode 3, once Mr Gu starts drinking with Mi-jeong. Before that it is deliberately airless.

Young professionals, an unglamorous specialty, and emergencies that are ordinary and constant. Four first-year residents with real arcs rather than support duty, medical detail that is specific instead of decorative, and a tone that is warm, funny and never cruel. Difference: Resident Playbook is a workplace under permanent pressure, so it moves faster and asks more of you than a dinner table ever will.

Slow start Episode 3. The first two hours are busy introducing four residents; from three the ward starts running and it does not stop.

The same profession with a rivalry bolted on, and it is the more conventional watch. Sixteen episodes of divorce cases grounded enough to carry the legal scenes, and a senior-and-junior dynamic more interesting than the files they work. Difference: Good Partner wants you invested in who wins the argument, which is precisely the kind of stake this show declines to raise.

Case-of-the-week law with a friend group at the centre. Twelve episodes, no romance, a supporting cast stronger than the leads, and a structure that works better than the plot connecting it. Difference: Divorce Attorney Shin still builds each hour around a client with a problem, where this often has no case driving the scene at all.
