Medicine as a workplace rather than a crisis. Same pleasure in competent colleagues covering for each other, same episodic structure where a patient arrives and something small is repaired. Difference: it is genuinely comforting, and nobody on staff falls apart the way this show insists they do.

Hooks early Episode 2, when the band and the friendship rhythm take over from the medical cases.

Junior staff being ground down and looking after each other anyway. The exhaustion is the subject in both, and both are exact about the hierarchy that produces it. Difference: obstetrics and comedy, so the tone stays light even when the hours are terrible.

Slow start Episode 3. The first two hours are busy introducing four residents; from three the ward starts running and it does not stop.

Mental illness given a full production instead of a subplot. Both refuse to treat a diagnosis as a personality and both put a carer at the centre. Difference: it is a romance with fairytale styling, so the emotional register is much larger.

Small mercies performed as a job. Same structure of one story per episode, each about a person the system processed and nobody sat with. Difference: the dead are the clients, and the central relationship is a guardianship rather than a ward.

Burnout treated as an injury, not a weakness. Same patience with somebody who cannot go back to work yet and the same refusal to schedule a recovery. Difference: no medical setting, and the engine is two sisters swapping lives.

Hooks early Episode 1, where the swap happens and both sisters immediately have to live with it. The ratings open at their highest and drift down from there.

Care work as the whole plot. A hospice team, a damaged young man, and the slow discovery that being useful is a treatment. Difference: it is about dying rather than living with illness, and the pace is slower still.
