Ji Chang Wook plays against type as a man who has been unwanted his whole life and it is the best work he has done: quiet, damaged, and never played for charm. The wish-granting premise gives each episode a clean arc, and the found family at the hospice is written with genuine care. The second half is weaker than the first and the romance is an afterthought, but the final stretch is devastating because the show spent fourteen hours teaching you to love a character the world did not love.
