A modern consciousness in the wrong body inside a royal court, treating protocol as an obstacle course, with a political plot underneath the farce that turns genuinely sharp. Same balance of swap comedy and court danger. Difference: the humour is much broader and cruder, and the back half gets darker than anything in To My Beloved Thief.

Hooks early Episode 1. A modern chef wakes up as a Joseon queen inside twenty minutes.

Joseon with a supernatural rulebook and a woman who refuses her assigned place. Same register: comedy, court politics and a fantasy premise that never gets heavy enough to hurt. Difference: it is four episodes longer than its story, so it drags where this one keeps moving.

Slow start Episode 3, once the spirit and the palace politics are properly entangled. Sixteen episodes is four more than the story has.

The other 2025 or later sageuk where a woman arrives with skills the palace has no framework for. Same enemies to lovers arc with a king who is only dangerous when crossed. Difference: the food is the actual subject and the plot is an afterthought, so it has none of the legal and family machinery that gives this show its spine.

Slow start Episode 3, once the cooking competition format kicks in. The ratings peak at episode 4 and never get back there.

A woman takes a dead noblewoman's name and starts practising law with it. Same premise underneath the costume: class fraud as survival, and a heroine whose intelligence is the plot. Difference: it is far darker, with real torture and real stakes, and the comedy that cushions To My Beloved Thief is almost entirely absent.

If the swap was the draw rather than the setting: two people in the wrong bodies, a growing attachment that neither can declare, and a court full of people who must not find out. Difference: it is a fantasy epic with a mythology to maintain across thirty episodes, so it is a much bigger commitment than one self contained sixteen hour run.

For the palace romance where the woman has something to lose by saying yes. Same period, same tension between rank and affection, much more discipline about history. Difference: it is a restrained tragedy in tone and it takes three episodes to get going, where this one is comic from the first hour and stays that way.
