Bon Appetit, Your Majesty

A modern chef falls into Joseon and cooks for a tyrant, and for four episodes the food is genuinely worth the runtime. Lee Chae Min is the find here, playing the king as a spoiled connoisseur who is dangerous only when the food is bad. After that the show discovers it has twelve episodes of eighty minutes to fill and no story to fill them with, so the dishes get more attention than the characters and the romance never leaves the kitchen. Yoona is fine and underserved. Watch it hungry, at speed, and do not expect the palace politics to mean anything.
After time traveling to the Joseon era, a talented chef meets a tyrant king. Her modern dishes captivate his palate, but royal challenges await her.
Slow start Episode 3, once the cooking competition format kicks in. The ratings peak at episode 4 and never get back there.
