Difference: the humour is much broader and the back half turns dark, so it is less of a pleasant meal and more of a story.

If the food was the reason: a chef, a restaurateur, and cooking shot as the main event rather than the backdrop. Same appetite for watching somebody be brilliant with ingredients. Difference: it is a contemporary romance with no fantasy premise, and it falls apart even harder in its final third, peaking at episode four and dropping three full points.

Slow start Episode 3, and the warning goes with it: the run peaks at episode 4 and then drops three full points in two hours.

The 2026 sageuk that does what this one only gestures at: comedy, romance and court politics all working at once, across sixteen episodes that actually resolve. Same register, no timeslip. Difference: the heroine's skill is medicine and theft rather than cooking, and the class danger is real, so there is jeopardy where this show has recipes.

Hooks early Episode 1. The night thief and the prince collide immediately and the body swap arrives before you have time to get bored of either of them.

For the palace with a fantasy element and a woman who does not belong there. Same easy tone, same reliance on a charismatic royal and a heroine with a gift. Difference: the fantasy is possession rather than time travel, it runs to sixteen episodes on a twelve episode story, and the romance is softer and slower.

Slow start Episode 3, once the spirit and the palace politics are properly entangled. Sixteen episodes is four more than the story has.

The palace romance where the woman has something to lose by accepting. Same period, better history, much more disciplined about what a king can and cannot do. Difference: it is a restrained tragedy with no comedy and no fantasy, so it asks for patience this show never demands.

Slow start Episode 3, the first time she refuses him and the show reveals what it is actually about.

A woman surviving Joseon on borrowed identity and applied intelligence. Same pleasure in watching a heroine outthink a system built to crush her. Difference: it is dark, with real torture and real consequence, and the food, comedy and fluttering that carry Bon Appetit are entirely missing.

Hooks early Episode 1. A slave takes a dead noblewoman's name and starts practising law with it, and the first three hours are the highest rated of the run.
