Same trick of making you enjoy the courtship while you already know the register the show is in. Difference: 1980 rather than Joseon, and twelve episodes rather than seventeen hours of accumulated tenderness.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the blind-date deception turns into something real.

For the specific comfort of a story that honours fate rather than cheating it. A long-lived man, a woman who was always going to matter, and a bargain the show insists on paying in full before it offers anything back. Difference: a modern fantasy romance with a comic ensemble and a pop soundtrack. Tonally it is a different planet, and the first three episodes are pure mood.
