Youth of May
오월의 청춘Checked and re-read
A romance set in Gwangju in May 1980, and the history is not softened. Lee Do Hyun and Go Min Si play the love story with a tenderness that makes the political violence around them feel personal rather than decorative, and the show earns its tragedy by spending its first half being gentle. The framing device tells you early how this goes, and the final episodes deliver on the promise. An 8.7 from over thirty thousand ratings, and it is one of the best period romances Korea has made.
A budding love story between a medical student and a nurse takes place in May 1980, during a time of civil unrest and military oppression in Gwangju.
Hooks early Episode 2, once the blind-date deception turns into something real.
