Difference: no ensemble chemistry to speak of and no stakes beyond a base kitchen, so it never reaches the emotional register the Wonderfools back half gets to.

For the specific pleasure of absurd people doing competent violence. A mismatched trio, comedy timed like farce, action staged well enough to take seriously, and a plot about a corrupt town underneath it. Difference: it is forty episodes with no supernatural element, and its emotional beats are much more conventional. The Wonderfools does its feeling in eight hours and sideways.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the priest, the prosecutor and the detective are stuck in the same room.

Supernatural rules, modern setting, a lead who treats immortality as an inconvenience. Same combination of monster of the week structure and comic banter with a real bruise at the centre. Difference: the romance is the engine and the mythology gets heavy, where the Wonderfools keeps friendship in front and never lets the lore slow it down.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the two brothers share a scene. Their rivalry is the engine.

If the appeal was a group of misfits with powers learning to be a unit. Ensemble fantasy with real jokes, a training structure and a world with proper rules. Difference: it is a costume epic with a mythology it takes seriously and thirty episodes to fill, so it demands more commitment than eight breezy hours.

Slow start Episode 3, once the training arc starts and the ensemble locks in.

The other Korean high concept where the premise is explained fast and then escalated every episode. Same confidence that an audience can keep up. Difference: it is a two hander thriller about authorship with almost no comedy, and its pleasures are structural rather than social. Nobody in it is having fun the way this trio is.
