For the world where the dead have rules and somebody has to enforce them. Ghost of the week structure, a lead who has been doing this for centuries, production design doing half the work. Difference: it is fundamentally a melodrama about a long life and a longer grudge, and the horror is atmosphere rather than threat. Nothing in it is gory.

Slow start Episode 3, once the hotel staff get histories of their own.

The other 2026 Netflix horror where a supernatural mechanism kills people in a fixed order. Same brutality, same eight episode Netflix shape, same willingness to be genuinely unpleasant. Difference: it is a contemporary teenage story with no politics and no scale. The court intrigue that gives The East Palace its spine is entirely absent.

Hooks early Episode 1. The app, the wish and the first death all arrive in the opening hour. Episode 6 is the peak.

If the appeal was a competent supernatural operator working cases in a world with mythology behind it. Same balance of monster hunting and lore, with a lead who treats immortality as an administrative burden. Difference: modern setting, romance in the driving seat, and its violence is stylised rather than upsetting.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the two brothers share a scene. Their rivalry is the engine.

Period fantasy with a proper rulebook and a court where power and magic are the same argument. Same pleasure in a world that has been designed rather than sketched. Difference: it is an ensemble epic with jokes and a mythology it expects you to follow across two parts, where this is one contained supernatural crisis in eight hours.

Slow start Episode 3, once the training arc starts and the ensemble locks in.

For the spirit world logic without the bloodshed. Unfinished business, a debt to be settled in the afterlife, and a lead who has been carrying it for centuries. Difference: it is a comedy with a small setting and a healing agenda, so it is the tonal opposite of a royal bloodbath. Bring it in as a palate cleanser rather than a follow up.
