Twelve episodes, a village that becomes real at episode five, and a couple who stop bickering early enough to enjoy. Difference: Spring Fever has no triangle and no grievance, so it is warm where this is grumpy.

Slow start Episode 5, where the village stops being scenery and the leads stop bickering.

Meddling families, a neighbourhood, and a burnout story hiding inside a romcom. Sixteen episodes with an excellent lead performance as a woman who cannot admit she has broken down, best in the quiet scenes with her mother. Difference: Love Next Door has no child to raise, so its family pressure is generational rather than practical.

Slow start Episode 3, once the reason she quit her job and came home stops being a punchline.

The same appetite for a domestic lie that everybody has to keep maintaining. Fourteen episodes of office romcom charm, with the strongest hours at the front and a show that knows it is running on charm rather than plot. Difference: Dynamite Kiss is a workplace comedy with no family in it, so the in-law friction that gives this show its structure is missing.

Hooks early Episodes 1 and 2, which tie as the best hours of the run. It trends down from there, with one late recovery, and the last two are the weakest.

A family firm, a period crisis and a father-and-son relationship as the emotional core. Sixteen episodes where the setting gives the conflict real economic stakes rather than manufactured ones, with a strong ensemble. Difference: Typhoon Family is a period drama with money at risk, so the domestic squabbling here is replaced by consequences.

Slow start Episode 3. The IMF collapse hits the family firm properly here and the show finds its subject. The last four hours are the weakest.

An island, an ensemble, and middle-aged people written with patience the genre rarely grants them. Twenty episodes of chapters that hand the story from one household to the next, with career-best work in it. Difference: Our Blues is an anthology, so nobody has to carry a full run, which is precisely where this show falls down.

Slow start Episode 3 closes the first chapter and sells the anthology format.
