Because you loved 그해 우리는 2021 · SBS · 16 episodes, about 16 hours in total Comedy, Drama Streaming: Netflix Change drama

Two people who were everything to each other at nineteen, contractually forced back in front of the same documentary camera at twenty-nine. It is the best K-drama about how memory lies, and it is also slow enough that the middle stalls badly, somewhere around episode eleven. Push through and it becomes a warm blanket you will rewatch annually. Both of those are true, and which one you get depends entirely on whether you push through.

Narrow it down 6 of 6

The order is our own call on how close two shows feel, not a score a machine worked out. Closest thing we have means the same experience in a different costume, shares one strong thread means one thing carries over, and same feeling, different angle means it gets you to the same place by another route.

Twenty-Five Twenty-One poster

Twenty-Five Twenty-One

스물다섯 스물하나

2022tvN16 ep~75 min~20h total

Shares one strong thread

The same story told from the other end. Both frame the past through somebody looking back at it, a documentary crew here and a daughter reading her mother's diary there, with the same precision about the difference between what happened and what you remember happening, same conviction that being nineteen with someone marks you permanently. Difference: it does not let them work it out. Our Beloved Summer says we were young and bad at this; 2521 says the times were against us, and it means it.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the two of them start meeting at night. Episode 1 is loud and abrasive on purpose, and it is the easiest place to quit.

Because This Is My First Life

2017tvN16 ep~65 min~17h total

Shares one strong thread

For the adults-negotiating-a-relationship-out-loud pleasure. Two people who talk about terms, boundaries and money instead of manufacturing misunderstandings, in a script as interested in rent and career as in romance. If what you loved was that nobody in Our Beloved Summer behaves stupidly to extend an episode, this is the other show that refuses to. Difference: the premise is a contract marriage, so the structure is a negotiation rather than a reunion.

Run On poster

Run On

런 온

2020JTBC16 ep~70 min~19h total

Same feeling, different angle

Almost nothing happens and the dialogue is the entire point. A retired sprinter and a film translator saying exactly what they mean, four leads who are all genuinely decent, no toxic conflict and no third-act separation manufactured for tension. Same comfort of watching mature people be careful with each other. Difference: no shared past and no wound to reopen, so it accumulates rather than resolving.

Summer Strike

아무것도 하고 싶지 않아

2022ENA12 ep~60 min~12h total

Same feeling, different angle

The natural companion piece. A woman quits everything and moves to a small town to do nothing on purpose, and the show treats that as a plan rather than a breakdown. Same unhurried, sunlit texture, though the stakes sharpen later than the surface suggests. Difference: barely a romance. If the leads and their chemistry were the draw, this has much less of it.

My Liberation Notes

나의 해방일지

2022JTBC16 ep~67 min~18h total

Same feeling, different angle

The heavier cousin. Same faith in silence, long takes and people who cannot articulate what is wrong with their lives, written with better dialogue than almost anything else on this list. Difference: considerably bleaker and slower still. Where Our Beloved Summer is a warm blanket, this one is airless for three episodes on purpose.

One Spring Night

2019MBC32 ep~35 min~19h total

Same feeling, different angle

Grown-up romance with no villain and no device. Two people already in the wrong situations, deciding slowly and carefully what they are willing to blow up, with the same quiet camera and the same refusal of makjang. Difference: it is about leaving a relationship rather than returning to one, and it has none of the nostalgia or the comedy.

Commonly suggested, and wrong

Crash Landing on You

Paired for the same hollowed-out feeling afterwards. But CLOY is a high-concept spectacle romance with soldiers, a border and a body count, engineered for scale. Our Beloved Summer is two people in a studio talking about a break-up ten years late. The aftertaste is shared, the show is not.

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha

The other cosy 2021 romance, so it gets paired reflexively. It is a village ensemble, and its warmth comes from a whole community being in on it. This is a two-hander about private history, and its warmth comes from restraint. Different machine entirely.

Nevertheless,

The other beautifully shot youth romance from the same year. It is a study of an unhealthy attraction between people who keep choosing badly, and it is deliberately uncomfortable. Our Beloved Summer's central argument is that both of them grew up. Swap one for the other and you will resent both.

A note on method

Matching starts from attributes we set by hand: pace, how much romance drives the plot, emotional weight, comfort. Then a title only stays if it holds up against the whole run of the show and earns a one-sentence reason for being on this list. Full method.
