For the adult romance where nothing is dramatic and everything is difficult. Two people making a slow, awkward decision while the people around them make it worse. Same restraint, same refusal of big scenes. Difference: no grief plot and no film industry, and the obstacle is entirely social, which makes it a quieter and more grounded watch.

Slow start Episode 4, once both families are involved. Before that it is glances and pharmacy small talk.

The other romance built out of dialogue rather than incident. Four people who speak carefully, a translation and sports setting that stays in the background, and a script that trusts silence. Difference: it is optimistic and has almost no grief in it, so the ache that runs under Melo Movie is replaced by gentle, low stakes conflict.

Slow start Episode 3, once all four leads stop explaining themselves and start talking.

If the melancholy about lost time was the draw. A first love told from a future that already knows how it ends, with a specific historical moment pressing on it. Difference: it is a youth drama with real momentum and a much bigger emotional swing, and it takes risks Melo Movie never does.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the two of them start meeting at night. Episode 1 is loud and abrasive on purpose, and it is the easiest place to quit.

For two guarded adults negotiating intimacy as though it were a contract, with an unusually good ear for how people deflect. Same low key register, same interest in the practical mechanics of a life together. Difference: it is a considered romance with an actual plot, where this one prefers to leave things loose.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the housemate arrangement starts.

The comfort version of the creative industry romance. Publishing rather than film, a long friendship turning into something else, and a workplace that is genuinely pleasant to spend time in. Difference: it has no grief, no edge and no ambiguity. Watch it when Melo Movie has left you flat rather than moved.
