Adults conducting a relationship with total gravity. Same restraint, same insistence that ordinary decisions are dramatic enough, same low-lit visual grammar. Difference: the obstacle is a bad long-term relationship rather than inherited debt, and the mood is lighter throughout.

Slow start Episode 4, once both families are involved. Before that it is glances and pharmacy small talk.

Two people who hurt each other and keep circling. Same interest in the gap between what somebody says on camera and what they do afterwards. Difference: it is much funnier and structured around a documentary conceit, so the melancholy is broken up.

Slow start Episode 3, once the documentary footage starts cutting between who they were and who they are.

Grief, a dead parent and a romance nobody is ready for. Same slow burn and the same trust that a quiet scene will hold. Difference: the hook is very late, around episode seven, and the film-world setting keeps it airier.

Slow start Episode 7 is the best hour in the run, which is very late for a ten episode show. Before that it is atmosphere and film references.

Two adults negotiating a relationship in complete sentences. Same maturity and same refusal of romcom mechanics; the conflicts are about work, class and language. Difference: nobody is planning revenge, and the pace is gentler still.

Slow start Episode 3, once all four leads stop explaining themselves and start talking.

Intimacy conducted as a transaction with rules. Same cool surface over a real wound and the same interest in what an arrangement conceals. Difference: it is eight episodes, chilly by design, and it keeps you at arm's length.

Slow start Episode 4, where the trunk plot finally moves. The three hours in front of it are mood with almost no story.
