The same writer, six years of practice later. Park Ji Eun builds both the same way: an impossible gap between two people, a comic supporting bench doing real work, and a romance played completely straight underneath the jokes. This is the version where the middle holds and the side characters are as interesting as the leads. Difference: the obstacle is a border and a government instead of physics, so the danger is human rather than theoretical.

Hooks early Episode 2, the moment the village women turn up at his door. The soldiers and the neighbours are the show.

Same writer, same lead actress, and close enough to be a remake. A creature out of her element, a con man in place of the actor, and Jun Ji Hyun doing a warmer version of the same register. Difference: the chemistry that carries this show is the exact thing Blue Sea is missing, and it runs four episodes longer than its idea, so the second half is padding with a past-life subplot attached.

Hooks early Episode 2, once she is on land and the fish-out-of-water comedy starts.

Park Ji Eun's most recent, and Kim Soo Hyun's other career part. The same trick of hanging a huge emotional swing off jokes you did not think were load bearing, with a chaebol family in place of the alien premise. Difference: it starts with the marriage already collapsing, so it is heavy 4 grief work rather than a courtship, and the comedy has to fight for room.

Slow start Episode 4, when the in-law hierarchy flips. The chaebol scaffolding takes a while to pay off.

The immortal and the mortal, done as tragedy instead of farce. Same central ache of a being who has outlived everyone and a woman with a normal lifespan, and the same willingness to spend a whole episode on two people talking. Difference: Goblin is built to hurt where this one is built to charm, and it treats four hundred years as a real weight rather than a premise.

Slow start Episode 8. Everything before it is mood, rules and comedy, and the buildup asks for real patience. From episode 8 the show stops explaining itself and starts spending.

Same director, same trick of a superpower used for small human problems. Oh Choong Hwan shoots romance like it is worth taking seriously, and the premonition premise gives every episode a clean job to do. Difference: it is a case-driven procedural at pace 4, so the plot never idles the way twenty-one episodes here have to.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the three of them realise they are dreaming the same futures.

Oh Choong Hwan again on a romance measured in centuries. A being who cannot age paired with somebody who will, plus the same appetite for a set piece and a costume change. Difference: the tone is guilt rather than comedy, the comic bench is thinner, and it never lets the comedy rescue anybody, which this show would never dare.

Slow start Episode 3, once the hotel staff get histories of their own.

Fangirl devotion as the engine, pointed the other way round. A woman whose whole interior life is organised around one famous man, played sincerely rather than mocked, where here the famous one is Cheon Song Yi herself and the devotion is the alien's. Same time premise raising the price every hour. Difference: it is 2024 and it moves, sixteen tight episodes with no slack middle and a loop that forces the plot forward every hour.

Hooks early Episode 2, the first jump back. Be warned: the lead's fan-girl register in the first two episodes is a lot to take, and it settles around episode 6.
