The Legend of the Blue Sea
푸른 바다의 전설Checked and re-read
Park Ji Eun following her own hit with a mermaid, and it works for exactly as long as Jun Ji Hyun is being funny. The comedy of a sea creature learning Seoul is the best thing in it and the past-life plot bolted alongside is the worst: twenty episodes is four too many and the villain exists to fill them. Lee Min Ho is fine and mostly reactive. Rewatch scores are where it falls apart, because once you know the shape there is very little left to find.
A mermaid from the Joseon period ends up in present-day Seoul, where she crosses paths with a swindler who may have ties to someone from her past.
Hooks early Episode 2, once she is on land and the fish-out-of-water comedy starts.
