Because you loved 악의 꽃 2020 · tvN · 16 episodes, about 19 hours in total Drama, Crime, Mystery Change drama

A husband with a false name, a wife who investigates homicide for a living, and a marriage that has to survive her finding out. The best thing about it is the least advertised one: this is a married couple with a child, a protective wife and a cornered husband, a dynamic almost no other K-drama romance has. Two things to know before you pick a follow-up. The real story does not start until around episode four, and the final episode is where opinion on it splits, which is what the divided label means.

Narrow it down 6 of 6

The order is our own call on how close two shows feel, not a score a machine worked out. Closest thing we have means the same experience in a different costume, shares one strong thread means one thing carries over, and same feeling, different angle means it gets you to the same place by another route.

Closest thing we have

The best answer if what gripped you was not knowing whether to trust the person you were rooting for. A small town, two men who are both plausibly monstrous, and a script that keeps making you complicit in your own suspicions. Same accumulation of dread out of ordinary domestic detail rather than set pieces, and a much better handle on why a community would rather the truth stayed buried. Difference: no marriage and no romance at all, so you lose the warmth that made Flower of Evil bearable between the frights.

Shares one strong thread

For the identity question specifically. It asks whether a person can be born a monster, refuses to let you settle on an answer, and pulls the same trick of making you re-read every earlier scene once you know more. Difference: it is considerably nastier, and it turns into a different show around episode twelve. Flower of Evil ultimately protects its family. This one is willing to take everything.

Same feeling, different angle

The grown-up version of the procedural half. A prosecutor who cannot feel much of anything and a detective who feels everything, working a case that is really about institutional rot. If the coincidences and the twists you saw coming bothered you, and they are the weakest thing about Flower of Evil, this is the show that never once insults you. Difference: it is cold on purpose. No mature romance, no domestic warmth, nothing to hold on to but the plot.

Same feeling, different angle

Psychopathy handled as work rather than spectacle. Korea's first criminal profilers sitting in rooms with people whose thinking they have to model, and a quiet insistence that understanding a killer is not the same as excusing one. It goes straight at the question Flower of Evil raises about what sits underneath a learned personality. Difference: episodic, unhurried, deliberately unglamorous. No ticking clock, nobody's spouse in danger.

Same feeling, different angle

The odd one here, and it earns the slot: a romance-forward show with a thriller subplot that is not decoration. If the appeal was two people protecting each other while something ugly closes in, this gives you that with the proportions reversed. Difference: it is a warm, funny show about a cram school and a side-dish shop, and the menace is a subplot rather than the premise.

If the marriage was the point. Two survivors of the same disaster, years later, neither healed, being extremely careful with each other in a way that reads as love long before anyone says so. Same register as the best scenes between these leads: adults handling damage without announcing it. Difference: no crime plot and no deception, and the grief has one clear cause rather than a hidden life.

Commonly suggested, and wrong

It's Okay to Not Be Okay

Paired with it constantly because both aired in 2020 on tvN and both hang a clinical label over a lead. But this one is a stylised fairytale about healing, with storybook visuals and a romance built on rescue. Flower of Evil is a suspense show about a man maintaining a lie. The overlap is a word in the tags.

Vincenzo

The other tvN crime hit of the same stretch, so they get paired by default. Vincenzo is a comedy with a body count, played broad and knowing, and it wants you to enjoy the villainy. Nothing in Flower of Evil is funny on purpose. That is a genre error, not a taste one.

The Devil Judge

Suggested for the sleek, expensive, morally slippery male lead. It is political satire in a dystopian register, arguing about institutions. Flower of Evil is small: one house, one wife, one daughter, one workshop. The scale is the entire difference.

A note on method

Matching starts from attributes we set by hand: pace, how much romance drives the plot, emotional weight, comfort. Then a title only stays if it holds up against the whole run of the show and earns a one-sentence reason for being on this list. Full method.
