Difference: there is no device and no twist, and it is slower still: the first four episodes are close to nothing happening on purpose.

Slow start Episode 3, once Mr Gu starts drinking with Mi-jeong. Before that it is deliberately airless.

Kim Hye Ja again, and the subject taken head on. A group of women in their seventies, written by Noh Hee Kyung with no interest in making any of them wise or cute, and a younger narrator who keeps failing to understand them. Same argument about the last third of a life still being a life. Difference: it is realist ensemble drama, so nothing is explained by a fantasy mechanism.

Slow start Episode 3, once the friend group's shared history stops being backstory.

One old man, one want, and the dignity handled properly. A seventy year old retired postman learning ballet, treated with complete seriousness and never used as a lesson for the young lead. Same gentleness about decline. Difference: the sadness is one specific medical fact rather than a reveal, and it is a two-hander with a much narrower frame.

Hooks early Episode 2, the first proper lesson. It is a two-hander from there.

Same writer, and the same use of unreality to show an interior state. Lee Nam Gyu on a nurse in a psychiatric ward, with animation standing in for what illness feels like from the inside, one patient per episode. Same trust that a formal device can carry real feeling. Difference: it is episodic and hopeful, and its subject is care work rather than time.

Hooks early Episode 1, which sets the format: one patient, one nurse, one small mercy, repeated for twelve hours.

Han Ji Min and Lee Jung Eun again, at anthology length. Twenty episodes on Jeju handing chapters to people the story would normally skip, including the ones nobody in town wants to look at. Same patience with unglamorous lives. Difference: the ache is shared out across an island instead of landing on one woman, and it is far kinder company.

Slow start Episode 3 closes the first chapter and sells the anthology format.

Aging shown as sixty years rather than one instant. One Jeju family across four seasons, with parents written as people who were young first, and a last stretch that earns every single thing it asks for. Same reading of a life as something that happens while nobody is watching closely. Difference: it is a sweeping family epic, and it is far warmer at every point along the way.
