The most inventive premise in teen drama: a girl realises she is a background character in a comic and starts fighting the author for her own scenes. For ten half-hour episodes it is thrilling, and the curve tops out at 9.3 in the sixth. Then it decides it would rather be a first-love romance than a story about authorship, and the last third coasts on sweetness while its own rules go quiet. The lead pair is lovely and the concept deserved a braver back half.
When a high-school girl finds that she is merely a character from a comic book whose destiny is decided by the writer, she decides to change the plot to suit her desires and find the love of her life.
