The temperature stays high, Park Eun Bin is genuinely frightening, and the show is more interested in the argument between them than in anything procedural. The closest match here. Difference: Hyper Knife is set in an operating theatre with real bodies at stake, so the danger is physical where this one's is entirely intellectual.

Slow start Episode 3, when the mentor and the protege stop circling and start operating on each other, figuratively and otherwise. Episode 4 is the peak.

Dread built out of politeness, with almost nothing underneath the tension by design. Eight episodes, two men, and a guest who will not leave, played by a cast good enough to make the emptiness of the writing an argument rather than a flaw. Difference: The Frog promises a pattern it never delivers, so it lands as a shrug, where this refusal to close feels chosen.

Slow start Episode 3, if you are still there. The two timelines finally start speaking to each other.

Beautifully shot, immaculately scored, deliberately withholding. Eight episodes of a premise with obvious teeth that the show declines to bite with, and two leads stranded in scenes that end before anything is said. Difference: The Trunk is nearly inert and its mystery can be summarised in one sentence, where this uses its restraint to build pressure.

Slow start Episode 4, where the trunk plot finally moves. The three hours in front of it are mood with almost no story.

Proximity as the threat, and an ordinary man turning into something else. Ten episodes in a cheap boarding house where the fear is thin walls and neighbours who will not stop knocking, and the best Korean horror here. Difference: Strangers from Hell gets violent in its back half in a way that is not decorative, so it is far uglier than this chamber piece.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the other tenants start knocking on his door.

Two people in a closed room, each wanting something the other has. Twelve episodes paced to make you forget how little action there is, carried entirely by two performances and twists that are earned rather than manufactured. Difference: The Price of Confession is a plot with answers coming, where this is built to leave one motive permanently open.

Hooks early Episode 1. A woman is arrested for her husband's murder and meets the one person in the prison who wants something from her. The middle sags, the back half is the payoff.

A slow, painful narrowing of one premise, with restraint that makes silence feel loud. Ten episodes that are genuinely psychological rather than branded that way, and the answers come late on purpose. Difference: Doubt is a case with an investigation attached, so it has procedure to fall back on when the pressure gets too high.

Hooks early Episode 1. The profiler finds his own daughter inside his case before the first hour is out.
