Because you loved 터널 2017 · OCN · 16 episodes, about 17 hours in total Crime, Mystery Streaming: OnDemandKorea, Tubi TV, The Change drama

A 1986 detective chases a serial killer into 2017 and has to keep working the case with none of his instincts intact. What makes it hold is the discipline: a proper investigation, a partnership built out of friction, and thirty years of consequences that actually land. These six deliver that, and we say which ones share the rigour and which just share the premise.

Narrow it down 6 of 6

The order is our own call on how close two shows feel, not a score a machine worked out. Closest thing we have means the same experience in a different costume, shares one strong thread means one thing carries over, and same feeling, different angle means it gets you to the same place by another route.

Closest thing we have

The obvious pairing, and the better plotted of the two. A walkie-talkie connects a profiler to a detective twenty years back, cold cases get solved across the gap, and the time rules stay consistent for sixteen episodes. Same idea that a crime unsolved in one decade is somebody's whole life in the next. Difference: it is far colder and sadder, and it asks a great deal more of you than Tunnel ever does.

Hooks early Episode 1. The walkie-talkie premise is set up and paid off inside the first hour.

Closest thing we have

The same displacement, pointed the other way. A modern profiler wakes up in 1988 and has to solve murders with none of his forensics, which is Tunnel's premise reversed exactly. Same interest in old policing as a method rather than a joke. Difference: it is psychological and ambiguous where Tunnel is warm and procedural, and it never fully tells you what happened to him.

Shares one strong thread

Serial murder handled as work, not as spectacle. Korea's first criminal profiler, twelve episodes of interviews, and the discipline to make the method itself the tension. Same respect for the investigators as craftsmen. Difference: no fantasy device, no comedy and no partnership warmth, so it is a considerably harder sit.

Shares one strong thread

If you want the same hunt with the floor removed. A serial killer thriller that ties its chase to the question of what makes one, with an 8.9 across twenty episodes and per-episode scores that never drop below 8.4. Same rhythm of a case that keeps reframing itself. Difference: it is genuinely brutal, its argument about where cruelty comes from is nastier than it needs to be, and there is no relief in it anywhere.

Same feeling, different angle

Same writer, modern kit. Lee Eun Mi again on a profiler who is the prime suspect in her own uncle's murder, with the puzzle cards arriving from episode one. Same construction of a case that takes years to unwind. Difference: eleven episodes, no time travel, and the puzzle cards are the hook rather than the answer.

Same feeling, different angle

The coldest, smartest version of a Korean investigation. A prosecutor who feels almost nothing and a detective who feels everything, working a conspiracy the script refuses to recap for you. Same demand that you keep the whole board in your head. Difference: no supernatural element, no comedy, and the institution never changes, which Tunnel is much more optimistic about.

Commonly suggested, and wrong

Sisyphus: The Myth

Recommended for the time-travel-plus-crime shape. It has the budget and none of the rigour: the mechanics contradict each other openly, and there is no investigation in it at all, which is the only thing Tunnel is really made of.

Voice

The other big OCN serial-killer property, and the comparison is fair on paper. It goes at the violence for its own sake, with a villain built to be enjoyed. Tunnel keeps its killer mundane, which is what makes the procedure worth watching.

Alice

Suggested off the time device. It is a grief drama with a machine in it, so the police work is decoration and the case is there to service the melodrama.

A note on method

Matching starts from attributes we set by hand: pace, how much romance drives the plot, emotional weight, comfort. Then a title only stays if it holds up against the whole run of the show and earns a one-sentence reason for being on this list. Full method.
