Because you loved 밥 잘 사주는 예쁜 누나 2018 · JTBC · 16 episodes, about 20 hours in total Drama Streaming: Netflix, OnDemandKorea, Kocowa, Viki Change drama

The exact match is a thirty-five-year-old woman and a younger man conducting a relationship in front of a workplace and a mother who will not allow it. The first eight hours are the best adult romance of 2018 and the chemistry is the reason. The per-episode ratings falling from 9.5 to 7.4 name the cost, and the drop point is specific: around episode ten the mother stops being an obstacle and becomes the show, and the back half spends four hours restating what the first eight already said. One song also gets played into the ground.

The order is our own call on how close two shows feel, not a score a machine worked out. Closest thing we have means the same experience in a different costume, shares one strong thread means one thing carries over, and same feeling, different angle means it gets you to the same place by another route.

One Spring Night

봄밤

Closest thing we have

Same writer, same director, same lead. There is nothing closer. Kim Eun and Ahn Pan Seok made this the following year with Jung Hae In again, and it is the same subject handled with more discipline: two adults, a relationship the families object to, and long scenes of nothing but talking. It does not collapse, and the second half stays with the couple, which is the exact repair this show needed. Difference: the discipline costs heat. It is slower, cooler and more interested in a custody arrangement than in wanting somebody, so the specific charge that carries Something in the Rain's first half is much lower here.

Crash Landing on You

사랑의 불시착

Closest thing we have

Son Ye Jin, and the same adult conviction. Same quality of two people whose obstacle is entirely external and entirely real, same interest in a romance that both parties know is expensive. Difference: it is a high-concept comedy-melodrama with an ensemble and a thriller plot, so the domestic realism that defines Something in the Rain is not the register.

Hooks early Episode 2, the moment the village women turn up at his door. The soldiers and the neighbours are the show.

2019tvN16 ep~62 min~17h total

Shares one strong thread

Grown-up romance with an age gap the other way round. Same workplace texture, same interest in what a woman in her late thirties is allowed to want, same restraint. Difference: comfort 5 and no family antagonist, so nothing in it will make you angry.

Love Next Door

엄마 친구 아들

2024tvN16 ep~80 min~21h total

Shares one strong thread

Families in the way, deliberately. Shared cast, and the same premise of two people whose mothers have opinions and access. Same slow pace. Difference: the mother here is a comic obstacle rather than a wrecking ball, and the workplace cruelty and harassment plotline have no equivalent, so it never turns on you.

Thirty-Nine poster

Thirty-Nine

서른, 아홉

2022JTBC12 ep~78 min~16h total

Same feeling, different angle

Women in their late thirties, and the friendship is the spine. Shared cast, and the same honest attention to what that decade actually feels like: careers half-built, parents ageing, romance complicated by time. Difference: heavy 5 and comfort 2, with a terminal-illness plot at the centre, so it is much sadder and the romance is secondary.

My Liberation Notes

나의 해방일지

2022JTBC16 ep~67 min~18h total

Same feeling, different angle

Adult exhaustion as the subject. Same willingness to sit in long silences with people who are tired, same treatment of a family home as a pressure system. Difference: pace 1 and almost no plot, with romance 2, so it is slower and far less interested in the couple than in the three siblings.

Commonly suggested, and wrong

Encounter

Paired for the age gap, the quiet register and the same quiet-adult-romance shelf. The obstacle there is class and politics handled as fantasy, and the show is fundamentally soothing. Something in the Rain is about what a family and an office actually do to two people, and that specificity is what does not transfer.

Nevertheless

The default adult-romance recommendation for anyone who wanted ambiguity. It has no world outside the room: no mother, no workplace, no consequences. The entire subject here is the consequences, so removing them leaves the thing you liked behind.

The Interest of Love

Recommended as the adult melodrama that hurts, and it does. It also spends four leads on a structure that punishes everyone equally and offers no warmth anywhere. Something in the Rain has eight genuinely joyful hours before it turns, and losing those changes what you are signing up for.

A note on method

Matching starts from attributes we set by hand: pace, how much romance drives the plot, emotional weight, comfort. Then a title only stays if it holds up against the whole run of the show and earns a one-sentence reason for being on this list. Full method.
