Another Miss Oh

Same writer, and this is the one she is remembered for. Park Hae Young again on people who are humiliated at work and worse at home, with the same ear for dialogue that sounds overheard rather than written. Difference: pace 1, romance 1 and comfort 4, and it is fundamentally decent to everybody in it, which is the exact repair Another Miss Oh needs. Park Hae Young wrote this two years before My Mister, which is why the later show reads as the correction: same eye for a woman being ground down, none of the ugliness played as romance.

Slow start Episode 4 is the turn. Before that it just looks bleak.

Her other great one, and the same interest in people who cannot ask for what they want. Same writer, same long silences, same conviction that a small life deserves sixteen hours. Difference: pace 1 and romance 2, with almost no plot at all, so the farce and the coincidence engine here are replaced by weather and commuting.

Slow start Episode 3, once Mr Gu starts drinking with Mi-jeong. Before that it is deliberately airless.

Shared cast, and the same reliance on near-misses. Same structure of a plot that only moves because people fail to say the obvious thing, same braid of comedy and grief. Difference: an 8.75 written-review average against 6.46 here, and it is kind to everybody, so the mean streak is gone.

Hooks early Episode 2, once she is in the house and the two histories start touching.

Shared cast, and a heroine the show actually likes. Same small-world comedy melodrama with a large gossiping ensemble and a thriller humming underneath. Difference: comfort 4 and it is built on giving its lead dignity, which is precisely the axis on which Another Miss Oh fails.

Hooks early Episode 2, once the town starts talking about her and Yong-sik starts visibly not caring.

The adult romance conducted in complete sentences. Same generation, same money problems, same interest in what two people owe each other. Difference: it is dry and calm rather than farcical, so the comedy comes from two people negotiating instead of from anybody being caught out.

Shared cast, and comedy that likes its characters. Same 2016 comic register and the same pleasure of watching somebody be embarrassing and be loved anyway. Difference: comfort 5, heavy 1 and a campus setting, so the adult melodrama and the premonition device have no place in it.
